As an elopement photographer, I’ve seen and suggested a few ways couples can make their elopement special and unique to them.
1. Location Personalization
Choosing a special location for your engagement photos (the place the proposal happened, or even an old family farm) or even the elopement location itself. Some place that has sentimental value and core memories that define you as a couple.
2. Incorporate your Hobbies
Plan to do an activity you both enjoy doing as a couple on your elopement day. This could be rock climbing, playing cards, four-wheeling, hiking, sailing, surfing; whatever the activity is try to make sure you both are going to have fun doing it and you both get to create on going memories through out your elopement day(s).
3. Go-to Poses
As a couple you might’ve taken a few photos by now from family events to professional photoshoots. During these times you might have a go to pose that everyone knows is yours. Or maybe you have some core funny memories behind a few different photos in the past you want to keep recreating. You maybe have a running joke that she’s your bro and you always put your hand on her shoulder when you take photos, or maybe there’s one prompt your photographer told you to do once and it was the funniest thing you ever done to each other and the prompt lived on even after the photoshoot.
Whichever pose or prompt it is, make your photos unique and incorporate these into your elopement day. Having an engagement session prior to the elopement day is always beneficial for everyone involved, especially if you as a couple have never had photos done together before. That’s a whole new topic I could talk about though lol.
4. Details
The little details MATTER the most. After being together as a couple for as long as you two have been together, you’ve come up with a little list of what is meaningful to each other and meaningful in your relationship. Use this little list to add those details into your elopement day to make it unique to you as a couple.
This can be from incorporating loved ones, photos of loved ones that have passed, their favourite food or beverage, surprising them with a gift they’ve always wanted, taking the time to learn something that aligns with their interests; there are many ways you can include details into your elopement, you just have to think about all the meaningful things in your lives and how you can include them in your day.
5. Personalized Vows
Take the time to express how you feel in detail and create an unforgettable memory on your elopement day by doing your own personalized vows. Make them meaningful and personalized from what you feel, think and do. Your starting a forever with them, let them know how you feel about that and all the things you love about one another.
Choose details and activities that mean the most to you and sit down together to discuss these details over a nice outing with each other to make the process enjoyable, memorable and personal. Elopement planning doesn’t need to be rushed, planning can be fun and enjoyable if you make it that way so you can have the elopement of your dreams.
