As things slow down in our photography journeys, I hope you’re finding time to reconnect with what brings you joy—whether that means savoring time with loved ones, catching up on much-needed rest, or enjoying the quiet beauty of a calm morning. This season is often a time when we finally have space to breathe, and I think it’s such a gift.

Slower seasons don’t just mean downtime—they’re also a chance to pause, reflect, and even dream a little about what might be on the horizon. For me, these times have become an opportunity to think about where I’ve been and where I want to go next in my work and my life. It’s been a time to revisit the moments that brought me joy, and to explore what I might lean into even more in the future.

But I know that reflection isn’t always easy—sometimes, it’s hard to even know where to begin.

That’s why I’ve found a few simple questions helpful, and I wanted to share them with you in case they offer a bit of direction or spark some new ideas. If it feels right, grab a notebook or open a notes app, and let these questions guide a cozy afternoon of reflection.

But of course, no pressure—take what feels helpful, and leave the rest.

This time is yours, to use however you need (:

7 Questions to Inspire Your Reflection:

1. What moments this past year have truly filled my heart?

Reflect on the times when you felt most fulfilled, whether it was a special session with a client, a new creative breakthrough, or a simple, quiet moment that brought you peace. What made those moments special? Thinking about these can help guide what you want to focus on in the coming months, and it’s a beautiful way to reconnect with what matters most to you.

2. What small changes could make my day-to-day work feel more joyful?

With a little extra time, it can be helpful to think about the processes and routines that could use a tweak. Maybe it’s organizing your Lightroom catalog, fine-tuning your client communication, or updating your website. These might seem like small tasks, but they can make a big difference when things start to pick up again.

3. Is there a passion project or creative idea that’s been on the back burner?

What would you love to create if there was no pressure attached? This is the perfect time to let your creativity run free. It might be a personal project you’ve been dreaming about, or a new style or subject you’ve been curious to try. Give yourself permission to explore, without the usual time constraints.

4. How can I stay connected with my clients in a meaningful way?

Building strong relationships with clients doesn’t have to stop when the season slows down. If it feels right, consider reaching out with a heartfelt message—maybe share a favorite photo from their session, or just check in to see how they’re doing. It’s a simple gesture that can make a world of difference and keep your relationships strong.

5. What’s one skill I’d like to refine or explore during this time?

Whether it’s mastering a new editing technique, diving into an online course, or finally reading that book that’s been sitting on your shelf, this is a great time to nurture your skills. It doesn’t have to be a big commitment—even a small step towards growth can make a big impact when the busy season returns.

6. What kind of stories do I want my photos to tell in the next season?

Take a moment to think about the themes and emotions you’d like to capture in your work. Are there stories you haven’t had the chance to tell yet, or a style you’ve been eager to try? This reflection can help you set a fresh intention for your photography when the time comes to pick up your camera again.

7. How can I practice kindness towards myself during this time?

We pour so much of ourselves into our work, and sometimes we forget to recharge our own batteries. Consider what self-care looks like for you right now, whether it’s spending time outside, diving into a hobby, or simply allowing yourself to rest. Prioritizing your well-being now will set you up for a stronger, more energized return when life picks up again.

A Gentle Reminder: Make the Most of This Time, Your Way

I hope these questions offer a bit of inspiration as you reflect on the past year and dream about the future. They’ve been a guiding light for me, helping me find clarity and intention during the slower seasons. And I wanted to share them with you, in case they can do the same for you.

Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to spend this time. Whether you use it to dive deep into reflection, focus on creative projects, or simply enjoy the moments of quiet, what matters most is that it feels right for you. And if any thoughts or ideas come up that you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you—sometimes, a little conversation can make all the difference.

Wishing you a season filled with rest, renewal, and all the moments that bring you joy.

With warmth,
Chantel x
